How to work with Yemoja

Yemaya/Yemoja

Energies will come to us along our path to work with us as we cycle through a new growth or ascension. There are many ways to work with an energy, here are a few insights I have found helpful.

The Guide for this month is a sacred one to my heart. As we move through the tumultuous oceans of time, with what seems like the most unstable our world has been in quite some time we welcome in the energy of Yemoja. This African Goddess brings us awakening. She is a fierce warrior here to carry your burdens, take your tears and wash away your fears.

She recently came to me in a meditation as I was visiting the ocean after a deeply healing shamanic session uncovering my mother wound. I woke up that morning KNOWING with absolute certainty that I must go to the ocean. I am a south florida baby who can visit the ocean on any given day of my life, but this day was completely different. As I stepped into the water I stepped into the healing power of her love. I took a moment to listen to the ocean and the messages I recieved were:

Let me take your tears

Give me the burdens

Release your sorrows

And I will wash them away

Cleanse them

Remove them from your heart

You don’t have to hold them

If the pressure is too much

I will take them

I am the mother

It took me about a week to recognize this WAS Yemoja coming to me to help me heal. I have had energetic beings come to me for many years now, each time it was to carry a lesson I needed to learn or help me through a powerful time of transformation. One thing often misunderstood about spiritual journeys is that we are in this alone. The truth is we are NEVER alone. And at the time you feel most beat up, most weakened or filled with despair, Spirit/God/Source will always answer us.

As I stood in the ocean and wept, I felt the powerful release of those emotions that had built up my entire life. I ran thorugh so many moments in time that I felt I had no control over. By the end of it all, I felt held, like that of a mothers hug. Something I knew very little of recieving but do daily multiple times a day now with my children.

Yemoja is the mother of all Orishas, the goddess of the ocean, and the protector of women, particularly mothers and children. She is most felt where the river meets the ocean and is one of the powerful 7 Yoruba Orishas, a West African Spiritual Practice.

She embodies fertility, creation, and deep emotional wisdom. She is associated with the number 7, as there are 7 oceans. Some symbols that represent her are: Seashells, fish, the crescent moon, boats, and water pots. When working with her she likes these offerings: Watermelon, molasses, white flowers, rice, and perfume.

She comes to teach you about feminity and embracing the energy of love and how you can awaken this in yourself. Her messages are not straightforward, most deities that vibrate this high speak very eloquently or in small passages or words for you to unravel, much like the poem above.

So how do you work with an Orisha? Just like any other spiritual being, silly! In my path I have come to learn how to listen to these guides and embrace them in my growth and I emplore you to do the same.

One way that I like to use is meditating with an image of Yemoja or a bowl of water with the intent to connect with her. Listen to ocean waves or sounds during this meditation. Lighting a white candle is universal in use, but being that she is of the ocean you may be called to use a blue one, you may even use 7 candles. If you have an altar, I have learned energies like offerings, so you may leave some rice, or watermelon or white flowers on your altar for her.

The truth is, there is no wrong way. There is the way that you use in your relationship with Spirit, using the tools that feel right to YOU. Even everything you learned here, question it. Do your own research, chat gpt it, find videos on it. This is all a part of the spiritual path, to question what is being told to you so you can find yourself in all of it.

I hope you enjoyed this blog, I love to incorporate the energies you are working with during your reiki/shamanic sessions. Book your consultation call to learn how we can work together here: https://metafix1111.as.me/consult
